On Thursday, May 11, Sant’Anna and IUSS awarded a PhD in Economics honoris causa to Professor Joseph E. Stiglitz, recipient of the 2001 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his path-breaking contributions to the economics of information.
Joseph E. Stiglitz, is professor at Columbia University. He is also the co-chair of the High-Level Expert Group on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress at the OECD, and the Chief Economist of the Roosevelt Institute. He is a former senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank and a former member and chairman of the US president’s Council of Economic Advisers. His recent work focuses on the consequences of globalization, income distribution, macroeconomic policies and development.
Within the ISIGrowth project, Prof. Stiglitz – with the researchers of the IPD Columbia University unit – is contributing on the analysis of the changes in contemporary globalized economies and the impact of fiscal and monetary policies in developed and developing countries. In his lectio magistralis Professor Stiglitz will talk about the role of the Euro, topic of his last book “The Euro: How a Common Currency Threatens the Future of Europe”.
